The Yellow Branch Waterfall trail begins at the Yellow Branch Picnic
Grounds parking area near the main picnic shelter (Approximate GPS Coordinates 34º48'21.09"N
83º07'43.24"W). The trail
begins following a short nature south from the parking area. The
nature trail crosses the Yellow Branch Creek creek several times and at
approximately 0.25 miles the falls trail veers downhill to the right while
the nature trail begins to loop back to the left (north) toward the picnic
area entry gate. Taking the right turn, the
trail descends a short distance and crosses Yellow Branch Creek on a small wooden
bridge. The trail then levels out in open hardwood forest.
At about 0.5 miles the trail veers to the left crossing Yellow Branch. It
ascends a small rise leaving the Yellow Branch drainage area.
Through open hardwood forests the
trail descends to a small creek crossing. The trail then traverses along the side
of a hillside and then rises and falls cross cutting ridges. The trail
is more rugged and at one point along a hill side it becomes very narrow,
just wide enough for one
person. Eventually the trail descends to the boulder strewn area beneath
the falls where the trail ends. Return along the same route. Winter
views through the woods off toward the Piedmont can be seen along the
last half mile before the falls.
