Natahala National Forest NC

Hiking Trail Map & Guide

Huge Poplar Tree

Once one of the largest poplar trees in the Eastern US, the Waslick Poplar Tree is now a mere remnant of its former self.  More like visiting a tomb, the visit is still worth the short walk.

The trail begins at the parking lot at Rock Gap along the road to Standing Indian Campground (Approximate GPS Coordinates 35º05'38.65"N  83º31'20.85"W).   The trail descends first toward the left, and then switches back toward the right.  After approximately 0.5 miles the trail crosses a small creek.  Approximately 0.1 mile later, the trail deadends at the Waslick Poplar Tree.  Return along same path.
