Ridge Walk to Open Summit, Near Franklin NC

PDF Printable Version of Pickens Nose Hike

Just like the nearby Albert Mountain hike, within less than a mile the trail climbs to an open view over 5000 feet.  Also like Albert Mountain though a long journey on gravel forest service roads is required to get to the trailhead ( Approximate GPS Coordinates 3501'49.43"N  8327'42.86"W ).

The trail ascends gently to the summit ridge in approximately 0.2 mile.  From there, a short side trail on the left leads to a ledge with a view toward the east.  Return  to main trail which roller coasters along small rises and drops.  At 0.7 the trail ends on an open ledge with views toward the south.  Trail is mostly in woods.  Return along same path.

Another nearby hike in the Standing Indian Area is to Waslick Tree.
