Waterfall Near Vogel SP in Georgia
A short 10 minute walk down hill along a graded path
brings you to Helton Creek falls in Chattahoochee National
Forest. There are actually
two falls. The first is smaller and is encountered
first along the trail. To find the upper more
impressive falls, continue uphill along the trail which
ends at a board walk structure at the upper falls.
This is an easy hike suitable for families. It is
close to Vogel State Park and campers from the park
frequent this well maintained trail.
To get to the trail head from Vogel State Park, bear
right (south) on US 19/129. Take the first left in
approximately 1 mile onto Helton Creek Road. Follow
this road for 2.3 miles and park at the gravel parking lot
near the Helton Creek Falls sign (Approximate GPS Coordinates
34º45'11.95"N 83º53'39.80"W). Most of Helton
Creek road is gravel. Vogel State Park is a great place
to camp from tent camping, RV's, to cabins. The park
is clean, the staff is friendly and the atmosphere is
relaxed. Plus at 2300 ft., it generally is much
cooler than the rest of Georgia, which makes for a popular
summer retreat. A couple of other easy waterfall hikes
in the area are Desoto Falls
and Dukes Creek Falls.
