In 2 miles of relatively easy hiking, you can take in two
waterfalls, and some history (or lore?). The trails
begin at the parking lot for the Desoto Falls picnic
grounds. After passing through the picnic grounds
and a portion of the campground, cross Frogtown Creek
along a log bridge. The trail spilts - left
0.25 miles to lower falls and right 0.75 miles to upper
falls. Both trails are well maintained and well
graded. Return to your vehicle along the same
trails.
To get to the trail headhead from Vogel State Park, bear
right (south) on US 19/129. The road will wind to
the top of gap, cross the Appalachian Trail (AT) and then
wind down on the other side. About 7 miles from
Vogel, look for a sign on the right hand side for the
picnic grounds/campground.
A couple of other easy waterfall hikes in the area are Helton
Creek Falls and Dukes
Creek Falls.
