This ride is a quiet country ride from Oconee State Park.  The state park is located 10.5 miles north of Walhalla SC.  Take SC 28 8.1 miles and then bear right onto SC 107.  The state park is 2 miles further on the right.

This bike ride is a scenic mountain ride with some occasional mountain views.  The road has relatively light traffic except for the portions on Highway 107.  Our directions are for following the route shown below in a counter-clockwise direction due mainly to a big hill on highway 107 that is easier to go down than up (the first mile of the ride).

Start

Park at Oconee State Park beach parking lot.  From parking area, take a left onto the entrance road.  Head toward main entrance gate.
0.3 At gate, take a right on SC 107.
1.3 Left on Village Creek Road at the bottom of the hill.  For the next several miles this road rides gentle slopes through wooded areas with very few houses.  It is quiet in here and you might see some wildlife.
4.7 Camp Chattooga Road on left.  Stay straight on main road.
5.2 Left onto SC 28 (Highlands Highway).
5.9 Right onto Chattooga Ridge Road. (straight a short distance will get you to the Mtn. Rest PO where there is a convenience store)
7.2 Left onto Village Mill Road.
8.9 Stay on paved Village Mill Road (left).  Right is gravel Land Bridge road.
9.1 Chauga River bridge.  Afterwards climb up hill out of Chauga River valley.
10.8 Mountain Rest Community.  Right onto SC 28 (Highlands Highway).
10.9 Left onto SC 107.
13.3 Right at Oconee State Park.
13.6 Return to parking lot.

Rider Skill Definitely not a family ride unless older children in good shape to endure multiple hills and are road savvy.  The roads have no shoulders which is typical for upstate SC.  The route shown has relatively low traffic.
